Company to exhibit advanced ISR payloads for tactical UAS at Elbit Systems of America booth

FAIRFAX, Va.— April 19, 2023 — Logos Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems of America, will be exhibiting for the first time ever its wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems for UAS at the 2023 Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit, in Nashville, Tenn., on April 26-28.

“We are very excited to introduce the Army Aviation community to our WAMI products,” said Doug Rombough, VP of Business Development for Logos Technologies. “Our lightweight sensors, despite their compactness, can image large swaths of territory, supporting such mission sets as force protection, route reconnaissance, persistent surveillance, and overwatch.”

The company will be displaying at the Elbit Systems of America booth the following WAMI systems:

  • The BlackKite-I infrared system configured for the payload bay of a Group 3 UAS;
  • The RedKite Block II pod for planes, helicopters, and Group 3 (or larger) UAS; and
  • The ultra-light MicroKestrel, on a tether-powered SPECTRE sUAS, developed by Hoverfly Technologies.

When operating at an altitude of 12,000 feet, the BlackKite-I can detect and track in real time and record significant movers within a 12 square kilometer area. This imagery can then be streamed to users on the ground or stored/archived on the system.

  • The U.S. Navy and Marines have tested the BlackKite-I, which weighs less than 28 pounds, as an internal payload for the RQ-21A Blackjack tactical UAS under the name Cardcounter.

Another system on display, the RedKite Block II pod is a lightweight (under 38 pounds) daytime WAMI sensor designed for planes, helicopters, and Group 3 (or larger). When flying at 12,000 feet, RedKite Block II can cover up to 16 square kilometers at once.

“Finally, we’ll be showcasing our MicroKestrel on the Hoverfly SPECTRE,” said Rombough. “This is the only WAMI system on the market today that’s light enough to fly on tethered sUAS. This makes MicroKestrel extremely accessible to small unit users.”
