See Everything, Miss Nothing
with Wide-Area Motion Imagery

Wide-Area, Long-Endurance, Day/Night Surveillance

What makes wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) so special is its ability to detect and track in real time every vehicle and individual moving within an entire city-sized area, all at once. Logos systems can do this 24 hours a day, some for weeks at a time. They can also cue hi-res cameras for more detailed inspection and can stream video to users on the ground.

All imagery is processed in real time, geo-tagged, and archived, so analysts can see what led up to an ongoing event and track suspects back to hideouts and co-conspirators.

MISSION SETS: FROM BASES TO BORDERS, PATROLS TO VIPs

Monitoring Troop/VIP Movement

When mounted on a manned or unmanned aircraft, a wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) system can be used to support troop movement by scouting ahead to ensure that troops are not walking into an ambush.

It can also provide airborne support for VIP convoys. In a scenario tested by Logos Technologies, the Redkite WAMI system was able to identify an abduction in recorded imagery and catch up with the kidnappers in real time.

Border Protection

Whether the threat is terrorists or traffickers, international borders require comprehensive monitoring. Wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems can detect and simultaneously track all movers, on foot or in vehicles, over a city-sized area, as well as record that movement for forensic and metric analysis.

Logos Technologies demonstrated the capability with its aerostat-mounted Kestrel WAMI system for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). With Kestrel, CBP agents operating along the U.S.-Mexico border, near Nogales, were able to catch 80 suspected illegal immigrants over the span of a week.

Protecting Forward Operating Bases

Our wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems are ideal for protecting troops operating in and around forward operating bases. When mounted on aerostats, they can hover over a target area for days and weeks at a time, achieving an unparalleled level of persistent surveillance.

In one incident in Afghanistan, our aerostat-based Kestrel system helped a U.S. coalition commander identify a car bomb placed at the entrance of an insurgent base. As a result, U.S. troops were able to avoid a deadly trap.

Providing Site and Event Security

Terrorism is a constant concern for security officials. To help safeguard the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian authorities mounted Simera wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) sensors to tactical aerostats flown over the city.

WAMI can also be used to protect ports, nuclear reactors, and other sensitive sites as well as major events like diplomatic conferences. The system can monitor a city-sized area at once in real time, so no site or event is too big to watch.

Combining Multiple Sensing Modalities

The greater the variety of sensors surveilling an area, the greater confidence a military commander has in the resulting intelligence. The challenge, however, is getting all the assorted sensors over an area without overtaxing available airborne platforms.

To that end, the lightweight Multi-Modal Sensor Pod (MMSP) houses, in just one package, wide-area motion imagery (WAMI), hyperspectral (or other modality as requested), and inspection sensors. The sensors work in a complementary fashion, and the MMSP can deploy on manned and unmanned aircraft, including Group 3 UAS.

A System for Every Platform

Platform-Agnostic Pods

Logos Technologies develops wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems that are housed in lightweight pods that can be easily mounted on planes, helicopters, and UAS. RedKite is an electro-optical system that weighs under 35 pounds but has the same capabilities of much heavier WAMI sensors, while BlackKite is the infrared version for nighttime use.

Direct Integration

Both the U.S. Navy and Marines, as well as a number of allied militaries, employ versions of the Insitu Integrator tactical unmanned aircraft system (UAS). Now, thanks to Logos Technologies, this UAS comes with a wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) option, offering new surveillance capabilities to smaller units.

The day-only RedKite-I and infrared BlackKite-I WAMI systems are light and compact enough to fit into the payload bay of the Insitu Integrator. And Logos technologies is likewise working with other platform-providers to integrate lightweight WAMI systems into their UAS.

WAMI on Lighter-than-Air Systems

Logos Technologies develops wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems that are light enough to be mounted on tethered aerostats. On these lighter-than-air platforms, the WAMI systems can operate 24 hours a day, for weeks at a stretch, delivering true persistent surveillance over a city-sized area.

Our first aerostat-mounted WAMI system, Kestrel, has been protecting U.S. forward operating bases since 2011. Now we offer the day-only Simera system, which is light enough to go on rapid-deploy tactical aerostats, and the improved Kestrel Block II, which operates around the clock and is exportable
